The Boston Tea Party was a protest of the Tea Act organized by the Sons of Liberty, the leader being Samuel Adams. On December 16, 1773, a group of colonist men dressed up as Native Americans, loaded three ships full of chests of tea and then dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. It is estimated that $1,000,000 dollars today worth of tea were dumped into Boston Harbor that evening. The colonists did this protest with the intention of showing Britain how strongly the colonists opposed taxation without representation.
