jan 20, 1539 - First Authorised English Translation of the Bible

Description:

William Tyndale's last words were reportedly, "Lord, open the king of England's eyes." This prayer was answered three years later when in 1539 King Henry VIII authorized the publication of the Great Bible which contained large portions of William Tyndale's translation. It was decreed that every church in England should have a copy of this Bible.
