President Obama passes the Race to the Top fund- a series of competitive federal grants amounting to over $4 billion dollars for schools who "are leading the way with ambitious yet achievable plans for implementing coherent, compelling, and comprehensive education reform" (Office). This funding would later give birth to common core state standards and provided a shift in the power of the federal government in education giving states the control.
