jan 1, 1607 - Jamestown

Description:

A. Roughly 100 settlers traveled to the new land from England.
B. The new land promised the opportunity to establish a new colony and to find gold and silver bringing riches to the settlers and back to the home land.
C. As Spain made up the majority of new immigrants to America, the push for European settlers to claim land in the “New World” pushed these individuals to leave England.
D. Once in the Americas, the new colony experienced famine, disease, and troubles from the cold winters, as well as tensions with the Natives pushing the colony toward near failure until the growth of tobacco brought wealth back to the colony.
