18h 21min, mar 10, 1798 y - Alien and Sedition
Description:
The Alien Act allowed the government to arrest and deport all male citizens of an enemy nation in the event of war and allowed the president to deport any non-citizen suspected of plotting against the government, even without a war. The Sedition Act made it illegal to make any “false, scandalous and hateful writing” against Congress or the president. This made it harder for immigrants in the U.S because if you seemed suspicious in any way the government now has the right to deport you even if you were doing nothing at all.
