feb 11, 2000 - Immigration today

Description:

About 43.3 million foreign-born people live in the US and about 20.7 million are naturalized citizens. Around 17.6 percent of people were Latino in 2015 and 5.5 percent were Asian American/ Pacific Islander. Both groups grew 44% from 2000 to 2010 and from 2010-2015 the Asian American community grew 17% while the Latino community grew 11%. Many children and families are emigrating from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador (tens of thousands) because of violence in their countries. Many Americans support immigration reform. In January 2017 61% of respondents expressed that unauthorized immigrants should have the right to stay in the US and apply for citizenship. While 22% believe that they should have to leave. There is little support for mass deportation.
