jul 4, 1920 - The Red Scare and National Origins Act

Description:

In the 1920s America went through a red scare, in which people feared that communists were trying to take over the American government. As a result, the government passed the National Origins Act of 1924 which lowered the annual quota of immigration. Immigration decreased from 358,00 to 164,000. The act excluded Chinese, Japanese, Indians, and other Asians on grounds that they were racially ineligible for naturalized citizenship. It stayed in act until the 1960s.
