Description:

In 1907-1908 the Gentlemen’s agreement was between the US and Japan. It was an agreement to deny passports to laborers intedning to enter the US and recognizing the US had the right to exclude Japanese immigrants holding passports originally issued for other countries. In February 18, 1908, the Gentlemen’s Agreement was fully effective. The agreement was superseded by the exclusionary Immigration Act of 1924.
