sep 26, 1882 - The Chinese Exclusion Acts

Description:

In 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was the first significant law restricting immigration in to the US. The workers on the West Coast blamed economic decreases on the Chinese workers even though the Chinese only composed .002 percent of the population. The act suspended Chinese immigration for 10 years and declared the Chinese as ineligible for naturalization. The Chinese were ineligible for citizenship until 1943.
