aug 18, 1830 - Irish, German, and Mexican "immigrants"

Description:

Over two million Irish people moved to the US and congregated in the cities where they landed because they couldn’t afford land. More than a million Germans also fled to the US. The Germans had money and went to the Midwest in search of farmland and work. The Irish left because of the great potato famine killing nearly 750,00 people. The Germans left because there was economic hardship, and political unrest that led to riots, rebellion, and eventually a revolution in 1848. The reason the Germans left for America was because few other places besides the US accepted German immigration. The Irish left for America for a new start and because America was the land of opportunity at the time. The Irish were treated poorly. There was discrimination against them and they got low paying jobs that were a lot of manual labor. The Irish were seen as the lowest of low of the whites.
