When Joey was 12 years old his mom had developed a drinking problem. With this going Joey's mother and step-father split up.
Joey's older sister Nicole and their mom would get into arguments a lot so Nicole went to live with their father. through all of this Joey still loved his mother very much.
After a while, Joey's mom sobered up and her and his step-father got back together.
