mar 23, 2041 - Project Boreas launched in Yellowstone
NASA's "Project Boreas" aims to curb the threat posed by super-volcanoes the world over by building a system of water pumps around their magma napes, designed to cool the volcano's lava over the course of hundreds, even thousands of years. After years of successful testing on minor volcanoes, Project Boreas was finally launched on its first super-volcano in Yellowstone, to much public acclaim. Indeed, the main and immediate benefit of this process is the vast amount of thermal energy created, which can be harnessed for the duration of the cooling process. Project Boreas was thus not only seen as a worthy long-term investment, but an excellent source of pretty sustainable energy for the entire West Coast; this was a much-needed boon to the US's image abroad, and seen as a great propaganda coup in its ongoign spat with China.
