Description:
The newly established German Empire wished to see itself in the Caribbean, with the construction of a coaling station for their navy. This was spurred by many things, including the already established prescience in the Caribbean by most of the major western powers, as well as the newly established Mexican Empire.
As a result of all these factors, the Germans bought the island of Curaçao from the Netherlands in 1868.
