feb 21, 1937 - FDR requests that congress adds additional justices

Description:

In 1937 FDR asked congress to give him the power to appoint an additional justice for any justice on the Supreme Court over the age of 70 years old. This is an example of when the Legislative branch checked the Executive branch. If this law went though FDR would have the power to choose 6 additional justices, tilting the court to be leaning towards the left. Congress declined his request ruling the law unconstitutional. This shows that checks and balances do work because they stopped the executive branch from greatly influencing the judicial branch and allowing FDR to control the judicial and executive branch.
