jan 21, 1793 - LOUIS XVI EXECUTED
Description:
After being held in prison after he and the queen tried retreating to Montmédy, Louis was finally sentenced to the guillotine. His beheading was caused because of the common folk figuring out of his counterrevolutionary plans with Austria, and he was put on trial for treason against the National Assembly. The man responsible for getting him on the guillotine was Robespierre, who was the president of the National Assembly. Soon after this execution, Robespierre began the Reign of Terror in order to slaughter tens of thousands of people in order to secure his position of power.
