On June 20, 1789, the National Assembly
( members of the French Third Estate )
took the Tennis Court Oath Made a vow
to not separate, and to reassemble
wherever circumstances require until
the constitution of the kingdom is
established". The oath was a pledge
signed by all but one of the members
of the Third Estate This revolutionary
act showed the belief that the political
authority came from the people and
not the monarchy The storming of the
Bastille
