On July 27, 1794, Robespierre was placed under arrest by the National Assembly and was taken to Luxembourg Prison. The prison warden refused to take him in, so he fled Hotel de Ville where he attempted to commit suicide, only to fail and be caught once more and executed the next day, marking an end to the Reign of Terror.Added to timeline:
