jul 14, 1789 - ATTACK ON BASTILLE
Description:
On 14 July 1789, a state prison on the east side of Paris, known as the Bastille, was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy, and the French common folk had wanted to claim it. After they raided the fortress gates and killed the general stationed there, they stole a ton of ammunition and paraded his decapitated head around the streets of Paris on a spike. This event was one of many that lead to several more gruesome occurrences later in the revolution.
