jun 24, 1986 - On the streets of Kolkata
Description:
After spending what seemed like almost a couple of nights in the desolate traincar, looking at the lush, green fields out the window, Saroo finally arrives at a station. He realizes that he was in the city of Calcutta (called Kolkata now). Calcutta, at least then, was known for overpopulation and devastating poverty.
Saroo, at the Howrah train station, sees other children, grimy and nearly the same as himself.
For the few weeks he manages to survive, he nearly drowns twice (saved by an unnamed homeless man both times), and runs into some railway workers that he's convinced will traffick him somehow (in which he manages to get away, hiding in a drainpipe).
Sometime later, Saroo is discovered by a teenager, who leads him to Indian authorities. He is then transferred to a juvenile dentention centre, called Liluah.
