feb 6, 1668 - A London Coffeehouse opens

Description:

Edward Lloyd opens a coffeehouse in the city of London, England in the mid/late 1600s, when he was 41 years of age. He named it "Lloyd's Coffeehouse". The original location of this coffeehouse was on London's Tower Street, but later in 1891, he moved the coffeehouse's location to the center of the business district -
No. 16 Lombard Street - in hopes of an increase in customers. Lloyd's Coffeehouse was a frequent stop for sailors, merchants, and shipowners. Because coffee was so sought after during this time period, Lloyd's business was very successful. In fact, he stayed in business for more than 80 years.
I found this event to be very important because it was one of the many contributors to the coffee industry. It was part of the foundation that made coffee into what it has become. Coffeehouses were very common in London during this time, and recognizing Lloyd's Coffeehouse is important because it was one of the more successful ones at the time.
