sep 24, 1620 - Pilgrims

Description:

In September 16-20 over a hundred Travellers embarked on the voyage of the Mayflower. Less than one-third were separatists the rest of the immigrants were adventures and spectaculars. 102 travellers aboard the Mayflower landed in Plymouth in 1620. The main reason for the Separatists to leave England was because they wanted to separate from the church. They wanted to go to the New World so they could practice what they wanted and in a country were they could keep their traditions. The settlers landed around November so it was too late to plant any crops. Many of them dies of malnutrition or scurvy during the first winter. After the first winter only 44 had survived of the 102. The following spring they didn't give up hope they built houses and a common house and the neighboring Native Americans began to build a relationship with the Pilgrims. The Native Americans taught them how to fertilize the soil with fried fish remains to produce a better corn crop. The Pilgrims and the Wampanoags signed a treaty of alliance, in exchange with defense of another rivaling tribe, they would help with the food supply in the first few years. In the autumn of 1621, the Pilgrims had a Harvest Festival and the Native Americans joined them.
