jan 2, 1913 - Niels Bohr

Description:

Bohr's discoveries were him making improvements on Rutherford's findings. Bohr took Rutherford's idea and the idea of the solar system orbit and combined them. Bohr thought what if the electrons on the outer edge of the atom weren't just erratically placed and moving fast, what if they were placed where they were and spinning whatever way they were spinning for a reason. Much like how the earth and all other planets in our solar system orbit the sun. Based on this idea Bohr proposed seven ideas, these included:
1-Electrons move in a fairly circular orbit around the nucleus.
2-Each electron in an orbit have a certain amount of energy. The electrons can orbit these energy levels without losing any energy themselves.
3-The further the electron from the nucleus the more energy it has.
4-Electrons are not able to be between these energy levels but they can move up from one energy level to another if heat, light or electricity are added.
5-Each and every orbit level and amount of energy is located a certain distance from the nucleus.
6-Electrons that are slower and closer to the nucleus are more stable.
7-2,8 and 8 is the order for filling the first three orbit levels.
