Ancient Greek philosophers were the first people to wonder why matter behaved the way it does and what it may be made of .Empedocles was the first ancient Greek philosopher to compose a theory that all matter was made up of Earth, Fire , Water and Air. He believed this because Greeks believed most of their myths in Greek in Greek mythology and that when matter was broken down it would be deconstructed to one of the "4 elements".
