Description:

a. Columbus departed from Spain on an expedition to find a water route to Asia with three ships. They landed first in San Salvador, a small island in the Bahamas, but continued onto Cuba, and eventually modern day Haiti.

c. The new land promised " rich cargoes of silks and spices" promising wealth and goods. This opportunity is what made the "new land" a promising place to venture to.
