apr 8, 1864 - Battle of Sabine Crossroads

Description:

Known as the first major battle during Red River Campaign. The Confederates, led by Major General Richard Taylor, chose Mansfield as the place where they would make their stand against the Union army. Taylor knew that reinforcements were nearby. The Union prepared for a fight, even though not all troops were fully assembled either. Both sides got reinforced throughout the day. After a brief resistance the Union was routed by the Confederates, resulting in a Confederate win.
