jul 28, 1794 - Robespierre beheaded/Reign of Terror ends: 28 Jul 1794

Description:

Robespierre was laid on a table at the Committee of Public Safety. He awaited execution. He was bleeding at his jaw, so much so, that a doctor had to try to stop the bleeding. Robespierre's last recorded words were, "Merci, monsieur," which was a thank you to the man who handed him a cloth to wipe his blood. Later, Robespierre was placed in the same cell where Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI waited to be executed. Later in the afternoon, Robespierre was beheaded without no trial. Right before his execution, the executioner tore the bandage off Robespierre's mouth, causing him to scream loudly until the guillotine beheadded him.
