Description:
The Edict of Nantes signaled an end to the French Wars of Religion. After King Henry IV converted to Catholicism, he issued the Edict, which granted substantial rights to the Huguenots. The Edict inaugurated a new era of peace in France by quelling conflict between the Catholics and Protestants. This new peace paved the way for absolutism in the 17th century.
