A deep political thinker and activist, in 1883 Morris joined the Social Democratic Federation, a revolutionary new political party, and in the same period formed friendships with the exiled Russian anarchists Peter Kropotkin, Sergius Stepniak, and Karl Marx’s daughter Eleanor.
He went on to found the Socialist League in December 1884, advocating "Revolutionary International Socialism".
