jan 1, 3847982 BC - Australopithecus "Southern Ape"

Description:

Australopithecus Afarensis stood on two feet, also known as being "bipedal". This hominid had a brain roughly the size of an orange. this group lived in the Afar Triangle, a region of Africa. This species was found in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, and has migrated to other parts of Eastern Africa. Scientists believe that their ability to migrate was key to their almost 900,000 years on earth, more than four times as long as we have been around.

Primary Source Inference
One primary source that I have found is that of the skeleton of "Lucy", an early bipedal ape. This is true because of the similarities between the Australopithecus's pelvis and a modern human pelvis. This shows that Lucy may have been one step forward on the evolutionary path towards modern humans by being able to stand farther upright than her predecessors. In the video, the remains of Lucy's skull is compared to that of a chimpanzee's skull. The video concludes that they both had the same skull shape, indicating that Lucy's brain was closer to a chimp's brain than to a modern human brain.
