95 years after the 15th Amendment is ratified, the Voting Rights Act removes the obstacles to voting that had encumbered black Americans. These had included poll taxes,literacy tests, harassment, intimidation, and physical violence.By the end of 1865, a quarter of a million new black voters had registered.
