Description:

Jews left in the Stara Sosnowiec ghetto were moved to the Srodula ghetto. They were forced to work in German shops and factories. Here Vladek arranged for Anja's brother-in-law's Unlce Peris to take Wolfe, Tosha, Bibi, Lonia and Richieu to the Zawierice ghetto. This was supposedly the safest ghetto, however, months after the Germans decided to finish out Zawierice - sending more Jews to Auschwitz. Tosha refuses to be gassed, so she poisons herself and the three children to avoid death at Auschwitz. Anja and Vladek's beloved son Richieu dies. Wolfe also dies attempting to escape the train to Auschwitz. The rest of the family hide in bunkers back in the Srodula ghetto.
