25000+ Jews are ordered to register at Dienstadium, regardless of if people owned papers. Those who were sent to the right were safe. Those who were sent to the left were sent to the gas chambers. Vladek's father was staying with his sister Fela at the time. He was sent to the right whilst Fela and her four children were sent to the left - Fela had too many children. So Vladek's father jumped the fence that separated the two, and was sent to the chambers with Fela and her children. One in three Jews were kept, the rest - 10,000 people - weren't seen again.
