jan 1, 1453 - Ottoman culture flourishes begins Mehmed II ruled for thirty years. During his reign Istanbul became a political, cultural, and economic city. Mosques, bazaars, roads, inns, and baths are built. There was a special tax charged to non-Muslim residents.
