jun 20, 1791 - Flight to Varennes
Description:
The Flight to Varennes was King Louis XIV's unsuccessful attempt to escape from Paris in order to initiate a counter-revolution in Montmedy, but unfortunately had only reached as far as Varennes, where they were recognized at their last stop in Sainte-Menehould. This was the last straw for the revolutionaries, as their own King was plotting against them, and it was agreed that he had to die as a result. This would be the last time that the French monarchy would have any sort of power in France, the last of it all stripped away from King Louis XVI and given to the people.
