Description:

Trans-Saharan trade was conducted by caravans of camels. Runners were sent to oases ahead of expeditions to ensure that extra water could be shipped to camels to ensure their survival. Saharan trade began to decline as the Sahara became less and less hospitable over time. (2.3)
