oct 16, 1950 - The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe

Description:

C.S. Lewis originally wrote The Lion the Witch, & the Wardrobe for his god-daughter Lucy, for whom one of the primary characters is based. WWII is happening at the beginning of the story, and the Pevensie children are sent to the British countryside in order to be protected from the horrors of the war. At the end of the story, a battle takes place in Narnia, good vs. evil, and it is the war to save Narnia from the White Witch's reign of terror. In real life, the people of England were scared of the possible outcomes, and the children being sent to another place represented the fears their parents and guardians had of what would become of England. Narnia and England are paralleled, as the creatures who are trying to destroy Narnia are similar to the opposing countries attempting to break England. Lewis uses the fears the people had to show what families had to go through in sending their own children off to more secure places.
