jul 14, 1789 - Storming of the Bastille
Description:
The Bastille was a fortress in a poor district of France, used to hold King Louis XVI's political enemies. Because of his power, he was able to hand out punishments (jail or execute) people who simply spoke out against him. The Bastille was a symbol of King Louis' power, or rather, his abuse of it. When the fortress was stormed by the Third Estate, it symbolized the true beginning of the French Revolution.
