On the 29th August 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph founded the company Netflix. In 1997 Netflix was originally a service that mailed rented DVDs to your house and in 1999 Netflix offered unlimited DVD rentals for a small subscription price. Although this service was popular with around 4.2 million members by 2005, the creators saw the future in online streaming. In 2007, Netflix debuted its extremely popular online streaming service. This mean't that people could watch films and tv shows online and ad free. Netflix is now one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and has approximately 117 million paying subscribers worldwide. Netflix has also begun to create their own original shows and films.

In my opinion Netflix has been extremely significant to the development of TV and film as it has lead to other online streaming services to arise such as Amazon Prime and Hulu. Netflix as well as the other sites has made watching films and TV shows much easier as it can be reached from the comfort of your home. It is one of the reasons DVDs and Videos are not as commonly used as they used to and what lead to the closure of Blockbuster.
