jan 1, 1673 - Test Act
Description:
A series of laws passed under Charles II penalizing and placing strict limitations on the rights of Catholics and nonconforming Protestants, saying they could not hold a place in office.
The act was met with opposition from both groups, arguing that they would much rather suffer under worse laws than have religious limitations placed on them.
Ultimately, the act was withdrawn because of the controversy it was met with.
