oct 1, 1966 - Black Panthers
Description:
The Black Panther Party, originally the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, was a political organisation founded by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in October of 1966. The party was active in the United States from 1966 however it dissolved in 1982, with international quarters operating in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and in Algeria from 1969 until 1972. They both started to protest the college’s “Pioneer Day” celebration, which honoured the pioneers who came to California in the 1800s but erased the role of African Americans in settling the American West. Seale and Newton formed the "Negro History Fact Group", which called on the school to offer classes in black/negro history.
