Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee on the 4th of April, 1968 which was an event that sent waves of horror around the world. A Baptist minister and founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, King had led the civil rights movement since the 1950s, using a combination of impassioned, powerful and moving speeches and nonviolent protests to fight racial segregation. His assassination led to a deluge of rage among African Americans. As well as a time of national mourning that helped speed up the way for a fair housing price, that would be the last significant congressioanl achievement of the civil rights movement.
