In early 2008, Ward decided to give up on her dream of being a writer and was going to enroll in a nursing program when "Where the Line Bleeds" was accepted by Agate Publishing. This novel is about twin brothers who have just graduated from high school and are trying to find work. They do not want to leave their small town of Bois Sauvage, a fictional town set off the Gulf Coast, and their grandmother who raised them there.
