Description:
in The Conjuring of a Woman at the House of Robert Houdini (the Vanishing Lady) was a film made by Georges Méliès who, was a French born illusionist and film maker. Méliès became known for pioneering many different special effects and editing techniques such as surreal editing, the use of which can be seen in (the Vanishing Lady.
In this short film surreal editing is used to create the effect of a woman vanishing then reappearing as if by magic. This type of editing technique in the early days of cinema was achieved by stopping the camera, making whatever changes needed to be made on the set, then starting the cameras again. Eventhough it was crude it showed that editig could be done to film which would then be improved on to the point where you can't even see an edit in some shots.
