jan 1, 1864 - Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University
The construction began in 1864 and lasted for almost twenty years. The result was worth the efforts: eclectic architectural ensemble, decorated with marble, crystal and gold, boggles your imagination. Seminary-based university opened its doors in 1875 and included three faculties: Divinity, Law and Philosophy. When a part of Ukraine was a member of Austro-Hungarian Empire, all lectures in the university were given in German language. In 2011, UNESCO included the main building of Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in the list of World Cultural Heritage. Nowadays, the university consists of 11 faculties and 2 institutes.
