In 1802, Argentina wanted to be free from Spain because of the tax increase and dislike of the Spanish monarchy. Jose de San Martin was a key leader and led many important expeditions in Chile to defeat the Spanish. In 1821, Argentina gained independence. This revolution also led to many other revolutions in Latin America.
