Peru became independent from Spain in 1824. The independence movement in Chile was because of class issues, Chile gaining independence, and the fact that Spanish colonies had the chance to overthrow local governments when the Spanish government was overthrown. Peru became independent with the help of Jose de San Martin, Simon Bolivar, and Antonio Jose. After Peru became independent, the country became part of the Confederation of Peru and Bolivia, but still struggld with social, economic, and political issues.
