CGI is computer-generated imagery it is the use of special visual effects created using a computer software.
CGI is used for visual effects because the quality is often better and with the effects we have more control over the entire film rather than more physical based processes such as the likes of constructing a set, or hiring extras for crowd like scenes.
2D CGI was first used in movies in 1973's which kicked off with Westworld.
CGI is a great attribute to film making and is one of the most innovated inventions to be on this timeline.
