Netflix, primarily a DVD mail service, expanded onto the streaming scene on January 15th 2007. This marked the beginning of the streaming dominated future.

This is significant for two reasons; it signifies the bandwidth required to stream video was finally there, as part of the internet infrastructure. Additionally, it showed that you no longer had to rent a single movie; a single service could provide all movie-going service.
