Filing sound at the same time as the image using a small strip of the film being used.Important as it was the next advancement in sound in film following the introduction of the phonograph. This meant the audio was more in sync with the motion picture appearing. Despite the progression not having much overall impact on the film experience, the advancement in technology would lead the way for the future of sound and film. Despite this, problems occurred as directors were not used to working with microphones and so the sound would become distorted, too quitet or too loud.
