A phonograph is connected to the movie projector and sound is played alongside the moving image. A landmark in filmmaking and producing history, the phonographs importance is very prominent as it was the first step in the direction of film with sound that was made on a 'successful' level. It gave film audiences a whole new experience compared to what they were used to, adding a new depth to films which meant directors would have to reinvent the way their films told stories as dialogue would now be the main way the plot would progress.
